mojo mundi

Mojo Mundi is a word I created to describe my practice of using World Dance to explore, connect with, balance and vitalize energy portals (which I refer to as Olwyns) in our physical bodies. Mojo is probably a Creole word, perhaps from the Fula, the language of the Fulani of West Africa, as in the word moco’o which translates to “Medicine Man”.
Mojo is a complex concept that is similar to but not synonymous with the term Medicine of the indigenous people of North America. Mojo means power and magic and spirit. And it also implies one’s idiosyncratic manifestation of spirit, one’s unique personal kind of power, spirit, and magic.
Mundi is Latin for “of the world” according to Stack Exchange. These two words together – Mojo Mundi – roughly translate to Kosmic Energy of the World, a phrase that describes the unique spiritual power in each one of us as we exist on Earth in each moment. Mojo Mundi also relates to the power of World Dance to help us be our most dynamic, creative Selves in our time on Earth.
Movement and Vibration
When we move our bodies, we change our vibration. Any movement has an impact on the energy frequency of the body. Movements from traditional dance styles carry the added benefit of gathering power over centuries or millennia of practice. We are moving not just in the context of dance in this moment, but we are also moving in the field of dancing with the ancestors. The movements affect the energy portals in our bodies — what I call Olwyns. Each Olwyn has its unique vibration.
If you would like to explore the vibrations of the Olwyns in your body, you may download the Tone meditations below for free, for your personal use. (Use of these recordings indicates your agreement to use them only for personal practice and not for any financial gain. Thank you!) To learn more about the ancient and modern uses of Tone meditation and tonal associations with energy centers in the body, or the power of movement to shift vibration, or exploring the sacred energy of your body, you may want to get my book, Dancing With the Tao: An Invitation to Somatic Spirituality, to attend one of my Mojo Mundi Dance Experiences, join a Soul Free Dance session, or book a Catalyst Session with me.
How to Use the Tone Meditations
Find a comfortable position (standing, seated, or lying down). Headphones/earbuds are optional. You may want to turn the volume down, as these tones are powerful vibrations. Once the tone has started, allow your awareness to explore where you feel a resonance in your body. Observe any thoughts, emotions, or intuitive hits that arise. What Elemental (Fire, Earth, Water, or Air) or Celestial (Solar, Lunar, or Etheric) Energy does the tone resonate with in your body? Once you have a sense of the Energy associated with each tone, you can use the tones to help move stuck energy, open portals, harmonize Energies in the body, and align with a particular vibration to improve your well-being. (Note: While I have labeled the tones for where I sense them in my body and what Energy I resonate with for each tone, you may resonate differently. Feel free to rename the file once you have downloaded it to match your experience.)
